Enroute - Day 1
Plane: Denver > Chicago > Stockholm-Arlanda,
Train: Uppsala > Katrineholm (One Long 38 Hour Day)

The Zoo at Chicago O'Hare. Customer Appreciation went up dramatically here.

Above Left: The Zoo at Chicago O'Hare. This is line to get to the International Terminal from the Domestic Terminal; we got to go through Security Twice. The military acronym for this kind of organization is called SNAFU and it applies.

Above Right: Once we got to Scandinavian Airlines the quality of Customer Appreciation went up dramatically.

Swedish Father feeding baby. Railroad Terminal below Arlanda Airport.

Above Left: I'm not into airplane flight pictures, but this Swedish Family impressed me. This was the first time that I had seen such an active role in child care from a husband. Our tour of Sweden only reinforced this impression. Kids, Raising Kids, and Families in Sweden are a high priority (no matter where one is located).

Above Right: Railroad Terminal below Arlanda Airport, we're heading to Katrineholm via a change at Uppsala C and another rail change at Stockholm C. Later, I would figure out that C means Central Terminal. These are the little things that one learns by traveling to other countries.

The 3rd class train compartment. Bicycles parked outside.

Above Left: The 3rd class train compartment, nice.

Above Right: Bicycles parked outside Uppsala C, nice.

Old water tank stem. Stockholm C.

Above Left: Old water tank stem for older trains; more bicycles parked outside Uppsala C. The word for a Track is Spår.

Above Right: Stockholm C.

Train's view of Stockholm. Train's view of Stockholm.

Terry in 1st class. Lunch (notice how the cup is held).

Above Left: Terry in 1st class.

Above Right: Lunch (notice how the cup is held).

Our loft room. Window view.

Above Left: Our loft room; two twin beds put together (classic European sleeping arrangements, except for France).

Above Right: Window view; the view was much better than this appears, but we didn't hang around.

Bears always play base. Love seat and lovely girl.

Above Left: Why is it that Bears always play base.

Above Right: Love seat and lovely girl.

List of Dufewholms Harrgård owners since 1485. Dufewholms Harrgård Hotel.

Above Left: List of Dufewholms Harrgård Hotel/Establishment owners since 1485.

Above Right: The front of the original Hotel (with Terry). Notice the Swedish styled Armillary Sphere, some of them are Sun Dials (but not this one); we would learn that the Metal Banded Armillary Sphere is a common Swedish display/representation for the country's Sailing Prowess (Viking Days and Exploration).

Entrance bridge. Entrance signage.

Above Left: Entrance bridge (used to be a working draw bridge).

Above Right: Entrance sign for Dufewholms Harrgård Anno 1495 (inside it states 1485) - There is no meaning to the word Dufewholms that we learned.

Kebler Elf Country. Big Duck Country.

Above Left: Kebler Elf Country.

Above Right: Big Duck Country (Elves and Ducks battle for territory). Lots of Apple Trees in Sweden, later on the bike tour we will miss lunch one day and survive by eating apples along the roadside.

Lake View. Lake View.

Above: Lake Views.

The Collector's Storehouse. Classic Swedish Barn.

Above Left: The Collector's Storehouse.

Above Right: Classic Swedish Barn, we will learn later that this is where the bicycles (cykels) are stored. Both of the above structures are over 100 years old.

Classic Scandinavian fence. Tree already showing its fall colors.

Above Left: We do NOT know it yet, but this is a Classic Scandinavian Fence, called Gärdegård in Svensk. If they need a tighter net, then they add more wood in the slant slat gaps.

Above Right: Garden Tree already showing its fall colors.

Garden walkway. Swedish Flower.

Above Left: Garden walkway. The Gardener was working so we avoided the main Garden. It turns out that the Gardener is the Bicycle Tour Director and will give us a good route briefing during the next morning.

Above Right: Flower, unknown to us.

Water Pattern. Garden Panache.

Above Left: Water Pattern.

Storm Coming. Swedish Ensign (in the wind).

Above Left: Storm Coming, it will be very cool tomorrow.

Above Right: Swedish Ensign (in the wind).

Cars with heavy duty fog driving lights. Stream View from the Dining Room.

Above Left: The first of many cars that we saw with heavy duty fog driving lights - It's a hint about weather in the area.

Above Right: Stream View from the Dining Room.
